Heavy Rains and Flooding Across Tri-State NYC Region

Another coastal storm produced heavy rain and strong wind gusts today. More than 8 inches fell in parts of the area. Sunshine will be back for the rest of the week.

75 mph Gust at JFK, 7.04" of Rain in Elizabeth, Widespread Damage

This was a major storm for the NYC tri-state region with numerous reports of damage, 4 fatalities, hundreds of thousands of people without power, train outages, many downed trees and power lines and massive flooding especially in Bound Brook, NJ area. The highest rainfall total was measured in Elizabeth, NJ and the peak wind gust recorded was 75 mph at JFK Airport. More rain and gusty winds tonight from this storm system but nothing as bad as it was on Saturday. A total of 4.24 inches of rain fell in Central Park with a peak wind gust of 53 mph.

Strong Storm Causes Windspread Damage in NJ, CT, LI and NYC...

Wind gusts measured as high as 73 mph at the Atlantic City Airport and 70 mph in Keansburg, NJ knocked down numerous trees and power lines resulting in hundreds of thousands of people without power in Staten Island, Long Island and New Jersey. This storm continues off the coast of Delaware and is expected to strengthen again producing another round of heavy rain and strong winds but it is not expected to be as severe. Showers will continue into Monday.

Flooding Rains and High Winds This Weekend for NYC Metro Area...

The rain will continue heavy at times with Flood Warnings and Wind Advisories posted for 2 to 4 inches of rain and wind gusts to 50 mph. A huge upper level vortex will move slowly pumping a huge amount of moisture up from the Gulf of Mexico. It is too warm for snow except over parts of upstate NY and northern New England. The rain will be fall on Sunday with showers left for Monday. But after that, the weather looks great Tuesday through Friday!

Light, Wet Snow on Wednesday in NYC Metro Area Maybe an Inch or Two...

A little light snow on Wednesday in the NYC tri-state region with accumulations mostly on grassy surfaces. Perhaps an inch or two before it ends later in the day on Wednesday. No cold air in sight, it will be sunny and milder Thursday through Sunday.
