2nd Tornado in Bronx, NY Since 1960 on July 25, 2010

The first Bronx tornado reported since 1960 occurred on July 25, 2010. It was of EF1strength with winds of an estimated 100 mph. It touched down in the North Riverdale section of the Bronx along the eastern shore of the Hudson River from 2:50 to 3:00 p.m. The path width was 100 yard and it had a length of 0.6 miles. Seven injuries were reported and no deaths. Straight line wind damage also occurred in southwestern Suffolk County on the same day near Babylon, Islip and Farmingdale.

Tropical Storm Bonnie has Weakened, No Major Gulf Threat





Tropical Storm Bonnie has weakened with 25 mph winds, no major impact to the Gulf or cleanup operations.

Tropical Storm Bonnie to Impact the Gulf and Oil Cleanup Operations







Tropical Storm Bonnie is now affecting the southern tip of Florida this morning. The storm will track northwestward and will affect the oil spill region as it moves across the Louisiana coastline this weekend. The maps above provide the latest satellite image, the forecast track of the storm and the expected wind speeds from the National Hurricane Center. The bottom three maps depict the forecast for this Saturday at 2 PM EDT from the NAM weather forecast model.

A Hot July 2010 in Central Park...10 of 18 Days So Far at 90 Degrees or Higher


Central Park has registered 10 days so far this month through July 18, 2010 with high temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. A record of 103 degrees was recorded on July 6th and it was 100 degrees on July 7th. Two heat waves (defined as 3 or more days of 90 degrees or higher) have occurred so far this month. There was a fabulous cool snap 13th and 14th with a refreshing breeze from the northwest and highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.

Brutal Heat in NYC Metro Area Today, 102 in Central Park!





Here are the current local NYC area readings from the NWS:

CENTRAL PARK: SUNNY 102 deg. 65 dew point 29% Var. 7 mph
LAGUARDIA AP: SUNNY 101 deg. 63 dew point 28% NE 7 mph
JFK AP: SUNNY 95 deg. 67 dew point 39% S-14 mph

NEWARK AP: P. SUNNY 101 deg. 64 dew point 28% Var. 5 mph

In Manhattan today there is not much of a breeze and it feels quite warm as you might expect. The sun is bright and the humidity is not too high but higher than yesterday. A record of 101 was set in White Plains, NY.

HEAT WAVE IN NYC...102 in Newark on Monday, 99 in Central Park



The hottest spell of the season is upon us here in NYC. Newark Airport reached 102 yesterday missing a record by one degree. It was 99 degrees in Central Park. Today it will be about 101 or 102 in the City! Stay cool.

Heat Wave Developing for Eastern Third of Nation and NYC Metro Area...



The latest model guidance and weather pattern indicates that a heat wave is on the way Sunday through at least next Thursday with temperatures soaring into the mid to upper 90s. No rain is expected in the NYC metropolitan area through Thursday.
