Flooding in Long Island with More Than 13" Falling in Islip in 15 Hours...

The storm system that brought the heavy rain last night and early this morning is moving into New England. The rain developed during the late afternoon on Tuesday with the rain falling heavily late at night. A total of 13.10 inches of rain fell at the Long Island MacArthur Airport, 7.84 inches in Wantagh, 10.82 inches in Holbrook and 3.19 inches at the JFK Airport.  Central Park received only 0.70 inches of rainfall and Newark Airport only 0.58 inches.  The heavy rain is now moving into eastern New England with Flood Warnings posted there.  The weather will be mainly dry for the rest of the week in the Northeast.  Tropical storm activity is not expected in the Atlantic for at least the next five days.
