Winter in May Tonight and Monday Morning for the Northeast, Light Snow Falling in Parts of New England Tonight...Near Record Low in NYC Tonight

Most likely the last cold blast of air this Spring season for the Great Lakes and the Northeast this weekend and on Monday.  Gusty winds with lows in the lower 30s north and west of New York City tonight with lows in the lower 40s in the city and along the coast.  There were reports of showers with some sleet or wet snow mixed at higher elevations earlier today in upstate New York and the Poconos. It was windy and cold with highs only in the 50s over much of the tri-state region today.  Scattered showers with virga were present this afternoon in northern and central New Jersey. At midnight tonight, light snow is reported at Saranac Lake, NY, Montpelier, VT and Newport, VT. The record low for Central Park on May 16th is 42 set back in 1878.  The cold Spring has created problems for farmers with some in Long Island reporting major damage to peach and apricot trees due to late season frost.  A Frost Advisory is in effect tonight for Sussex and Warren Counties of New Jersey.  It feels like winter in May, similar to a few years ago on Memorial Day weekend.
