Third Significant Snowfall So Far This Month in the New York City Metro Area...5 to 10 Inches Through Friday...

Winter Storm Warnings and Weather Advisories are in effect for the entire NYC metro area.  A prolonged period of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain can expected into tomorrow afternoon.  A total of 9.0 inches of snow has been reported so far in Malvere, PA, 7.9 inches in Trenton, 3.0 inches in Spotswood and 2.0 inches in Brooklyn.  Gulf moisture is streaming up the East Coast into cold, dry Arctic high pressure. This will keep the precipitation mostly as snow today with some warming expected on Friday that will likely produce sleet, freezing rain and rain along the coast and over central and southern New Jersey.  This is the third significant snowfall of February 2021.  The long range outlook looks as if it will stay cold into the first week of March.

Fast Moving Nor'easter Will Produce More Snow for the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast This Super Bowl Weekend...

A classic winter storm pattern for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic is forecast this weekend as low pressure tracks up the coast. The storm will move off North Carolina as it tracks northeastward. Winter Storm Watches are in effect from the mountains of northeastern Georgia to Boston this weekend. This storm will be a fast mover and will track southeast of Long Island by Sunday evening.  The snow will begin in the New York City metro area late Saturday night and will fall heavily at times before ending in the late afternoon on Super Bowl Sunday.  A total of 3 to 6 inches is forecast with some locally higher amounts along the coast and in the city. Very cold, Arctic Air will be on the move and will spread into the Northeast by mid-week.
