The first coastal storm of the season brought rain to the New York City metro area last evening. The precipitation began during the early evening accompanied by thunder and lightning. The rain became heavy overnight and this morning. A total of 2.70 inches of rain has fallen at Newark Airport and 2.38 inches in Central Park through 8:00 a.m. today. The storm will intensify rapidly off the coast of Long Island today and then retrograde or move southeastward towards and coast before pulling away to the northeast out to sea tonight and Wednesday. Flood Watches, Flash Flood Warnings, High Wind Warnings for the coast are in effect through tonight. Sunshine returns to the city on Wednesday.
