Blizzard for the Midwest and Great Lakes Today and Tomorrow...Heavy Rain and Strong Winds for New York City Metro Area...Sunny and Cold for Christmas Weekend...

An intensifying storm will track slowly from Wisconsin into Quebec on Saturday. Brutal cold and low wind chills are expected.  Chicago is expecting 3 to 7 inches of snow, wind chills to -30 with a low tonight of -4 and a high tomorrow only 2 degrees.  The storm will create blizzard conditions with zero visibility at times, wind gusts to 60 mph and extreme wind chills as low as -30 degrees over the Great Lakes.  Bismarck, ND is expecting wind chills of -45 today and -40 tonight.  Right now Bismarck is reporting -17 with a wind chill of -45.  New York City will be on the warm side of the storm with temperatures into the 50s tonight, a dramatic drop in temperatures will occur tomorrow afternoon with strong winds gusting to 50 mph.  One to 3 inches of rain is forecast for the NYC metro area.  Some of the rain may change to snow before ending early Friday evening.  The weather on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be sunny, breezy and very cold in NYC with highs of 22 and 28 respectively. The polar vortex will strengthen and retreat northward allowing for a mild start to the new year in early January 2023.  Have a great holiday.

Hurricane Ian Taking Aim at South Carolina...

After causing major damage to Fort Meyers and surrounding communities, Ian strengthened after moving across Florida and over the Atlantic.  As of 11 p.m. tonight, the storm is located approximately 185 miles south of Charlston, South Carolina.  Sustained winds near the center are now 80 mph and the storm is moving north-northeast at 10 mph. Storm Surge Warnings/Watches, Flood Warnings/Watches and Hurricane Warnings and Watches are in effect for eastern sections of South Carolina and North Carolina.  The heavy rain from the storm is forecast to spread north to New Jersey and New York City this weekend.

Strong Storm to Produce Rain, Snow and Strong Winds on Saturday in the Northeast...

A strengthening storm will track up the East Coast Saturday as cold air moves in from the west.  Rain will change to snow in the City and along coast Saturday afternoon.  More snow will fall in the northern and western suburbs. One to 3 inches of snow is forecast for the city and central New Jersey with 8 to 12 inches well north and west.  Strong winds will gust to over 50 mph. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the city and northern and central New Jersey.  A Wind Avisory is also in effect for potentially damaging winds.  The weather will be sunny, breezy and cold on Sunday with highs only in the 30s.
