Strong Winds and Heavy Rain Yesterday and Last Night Across the Northeast...

Winds gusted as high as 68 mph in Delaware yesterday with gusts up to 59 mph in Long Island. The storm also produced rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches across the NY Tri-State area. It will be sunny today, light rain tonight and Sunday. Another soaking rain is on the way for Monday and Tuesday.

Snow Tonight Across the Northeast and NYC Metro Area...Winter Weather Advisory in Effect!

President's Day is starting out on a snowy note early this Monday morning with a large area of snow spreading in across NJ and all the way out to the Great Lakes. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the entire Tri-State region for 1 to 2 inches south of the city and up to 3 to 6 inches north of the city. The snow may mix with sleet and rain later Monday morning along the coast and in central NJ. There could also be a period of light snow Monday night and Tuesday morning across central and southern NJ and perhaps even in the city. The weather will be sunny cold Tuesday and Wednesday. A chance of a good soaking rain with wet snow and sleet north and west this coming Friday.

Strong Winds Today and Tonight...Gusts to 60 mph in NYC Metro Area

A very strong storm over the Canadian maritimes is really whipping up the winds today and tonight in the Northeast. The winds this afternoon were gusting to 60 mph in White Plains, NY; Bayville, Long Island and at JFK Airport. The wind gusted to 51 mph in Newark and 46 mph in Central Park. There were several reports of wind damage and falling trees and power lines with scattered power outages. The temperature was 71 yesterday in Central Park and now readings are in the lower 20s with winds gusting to over 40 mph. An amazing change in the last 24 hours. The winds will subside on Sunday but a storm will spread snow across the NYC metro area Sunday night and Monday morning, President's Day.

Huge Amount of Sleet and Freezing Rain Heading to Northeast

Doppler radar shows a huge area of sleet and freezing rain across PA, OH and IN (pink shading). Ice Storm Warnings and Freezing Rain Advisories are posted across these states tonight. Heavy snow will fall with amounts over a foot in upstate NY and northern interior New England.

Cold with an Active Storm Track for the Next 7-10 Days

The GFS this afternoon continues the active storm track in the East as well as the Midwest. A coastal storm may spread snow, sleet and rain to the NYC metro area Friday night and Saturday. Another storm might spread snow with a shot of cold air around the middle of next week. I notice a more Pacific influence around February 10th trough the 14th with storms taking a more northern track across southern Canada with some moderation in temperature across the lower 48 states but no big warm-up or unseasonable temperatures in sight.

Freezing Rain and Sleet Changing to Rain Wednesday...Blizzard in Midwest!

A Freezing Rain Advisory is in effect tonight for NYC, LI, southern New York state central and coastal NJ and southern CT.  One-quarter of an inch of ice expected in and around the city with one-half inch ice accumulation north and west where an Ice Storm Warning is in effect.  Most of the area will change to rain by Wednesday afternoon.  Over a foot of snow is expected in upstate New York and northern New England which had been missing out on a lot of snow this year.  Blizzard conditions continue in the Midwest with 2 feet expected in Chicago with winds gusting to 60 mph.  Another storm may produce some light snow as it moves up the coast on Friday night and Saturday here in the NYC metro area.
