Very Cool, Wet Weather Today to Begin the Memorial Day Weekend, A Trace of Snow in Binghamton, NY...

Radar shows a little snow (blue shading on map below) in the Catskills and northern New York State at 8:00 p.m. A trace of snow and sleet fell today in Binghamton, NY which was the latest date snow was ever recorded in the Spring.  A very cool start to the holiday weekend. At 7:00 p.m. it is only 48 in Central Park, 49 at Newark, 46 in Albany and 47 in Caldwell, NJ.  The unusual aspect about this cold, rainy pattern to begin this Memorial Day Weekend is the fact that the winds are not coming in from off the ocean today and tomorrow.  Instead, the winds will be circulating around an intensifying low moving into New England from the northwest direction.  The weather will get better Saturday afternoon in New York and Sunday and Monday look nice.  This has been a very cold Spring in the Northeast and the Midwest.

Note: Over the Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday, May 25, 2013 more than 3 feet of snow fell in Whiteface Mountain, New York.
