Hot in the West, Wet Weather Returning in the East

Another hot one in the west today with temperatures expected to reach the 110 to 125 degree range with Death Valley possibly reaching 129 degrees.  The all time highest temperature recorded on air was 134 degrees in Death Valley back in July 1913.  The temperature at the Death Valley visitor center at 4:30 PM PDT is 123 degrees and it is 119 in Las Vegas.   An unseasonable jetstream pattern with a trough in the eastern Pacific and a developing ridge in the Southwest combined with a highly amplified trough in the East is producing dry weather and very hot conditions in the west with moist, wet and seasonably warm conditions in the eastern US.  More than 3 inches of rain is forecast over most of the eastern seaboard in the next 3 days.  The jetstream moves into Canada by July 13th or 14th and a more summerlike pattern takes over the lower 48 states.

Blistering Heat in the Southwest into Next Week...

Temperatures will soar above 125 degrees this weekend in Death Valley, California.  Highs will rise to 127 in Death Valley Saturday, 118 in Phoenix, 118 in Yuma, 115 in Palm Springs and 115 in Las Vegas.  The heat will continue into next week in the Southwest.  Meanwhile, a moist, tropical flow is setting up along the east coast with periods of showers and thunderstorms likely this weekend through most of next week.
