Colder and Stormier Weather for the 2nd Half of October 2013 in the Midwest and the Northeast

The GFS computer runs continue to indicate that no tropical storms are forecast to track near the United States.  The model runs indicate that the relatively quiet hurricane season will come to an end on November 1st with no hurricanes affecting our nation.  The weather has been relatively mild across the Northeast and the New York City area so far this month.  However, the GFS is indicating that a more amplified jet stream pattern will bring down the first real cold air from Canada by next Wednesday and Thursday (October 23rd and 24th).  A storm is forecast to produce rain across most of the Northeast around this time.  By October 27th-28th, a strong shortwave is forecast to dive into the Midwest resulting in an even stronger shot of cold air.  A storm is forecast to produce rain and snow across the Great Lakes and the Northeast.  In the wake of the storm, the weather is unseasonably cold and dry for Halloween in the Northeast.
