A strong coastal storm will "bomb" out over the ocean as it tracks northward. A storm that "bombs" is one that experiences a decrease in pressure of 24 millibars or more in 24 hours. This storm will produce wind gusts over 50 mph, visibility to near zero and snowfall amounts ranging from 4 to 12 inches from coastal North Carolina to eastern Long Island. Heavier snowfall amounts above a foot can be expected over coastal New England from Massachusetts to Maine. Blizzard Warnings are in effect from northeastern North Carolina to Maine. One-tenth of an inch of snow fell in Tallahassee, Florida today for the first time since 1989. Southeast Georgia, coastal South Carolina all had Winter Storm Warnings in effect today with periods of snow, sleet and freezing rain. In the wake of storm, another blast of frigid Arctic air will produce temperatures near zero and wind chills as low as -10 to -25 degrees on Friday and Saturday. There will be some moderation in the temperatures next week.
