Weakening low pressure system moving through the area with low pressure off the coast produced light snow that began last evening and ended in the city around 7:30 a.m. this morning. This was the first snow accumulation of winter 2024-25 for New York City. Approximately 1 inch of snow has fallen in Midtown. The last significant accumulation in December in Central Park was the 10.5" snowfall of December 16-17, 2020. The snow has ended this morning in the city but the snow will continue to fall over Long Island for the next couple of hours. The weather will turn milder in the coming days as a "Canadian Warming" occurs in the stratosphere at 10 mb. Christmas Day will be sunny and seasonably cold with a high of 40 degrees. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years.
