Direct Hit Forecast for Eastern North Carolina, New York City, Jersey Shore and Lower Hudson Valley

The latest storm track from the National Hurricane Center continues to indicate a more western track that is expected to take a Category 3 storm across eastern North Carolina and then a Category 1 storm hitting Atlantic City, the Jersey Shore, New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley directly on Sunday. A Category 1 storm produces sustained winds of 74 to 95 mph. A new moon will also increase the height of the high tide which will enhance coastal flooding. Saturday night the winds will begin to increase in New York City and then the wind will dramatically increase on Sunday morning. At 8:00 AM the storm is forecast to be centered over south central New Jersey. NYC mass transit will be shut down completely Saturday through Monday and residents are being told to evacuate low-lying areas. More on this storm later this week.
