A broad southwesterly jet stream pattern will produce a lot of moisture from the Southwest United States to the Northeast over the next 24 hours to 36 hours with Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings from New Mexico to Connecticut. Cold, Arctic air is moving southward across the Northern Plains and the Great Lakes today. As this air moves south and east, the rain will change to snow late tonight across the Mid-Atlantic and the New York City metro area with sleet and snow becoming all snow. The snow is forecast to accumulate 4 to 8 inches in the city with 6 to 10 inches south across southern New Jersey. There will be a fine line between snowfall amounts with a large variation within 10 or 20 miles in the New York metro area. There will be less snow north of the city and more to the south. The snow should end by the late afternoon on Thursday. Sunny and cold weather will be present on Friday through the weekend.
