The current heat will be breaking on Saturday across the Great Lakes and on Saturday across the Northeast as the jetstream dives southward and a cold front crosses the region. Temperatures today rose to 100 in Newark, NJ tying a record for the date and a daily high temperature record of 100 was set at La Guardia Airport in Queens, NY. The temperature in Central Park rose to 96 with a heat index as high as 103. It was 96 in Chicago today, a record breaking 99 in Boston and it was 97 in Philadelphia. There is a chance of severe thunderstorms with the cold front tonight and tomorrow across the Great Lakes and the Northeast and temperatures will be cooler in the 80s on Sunday in the Northeast with a big drop in the humidity. Temperatures next week in the east will remain in the seasonable 80s with thunderstorms possible especially on Monday and Tuesday. The longer range GFS model is indicating that the weather will be seasonable across the Northeast with more heat building in 7 to 10 days in the Midwest and the Southwest.
