Storm is Winding Down in the Northeast but Very Cold Arctic Air Will Follow

The coldest weather in 10 years will move in tonight across the New York City metro area.  Temperatures will be near 2 in New York and -10 in the northern suburbs.  Record-setting cold is present over the northern plains with lows tonight of -30 to -40 in northern Minnesota with wind chills down to 50 to 60 below.  The latest storm produced 6.0" in Central Park, 9.0" in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, 7.0" in Darien, CT and 12.0" in North Babylon, Long Island.  It will warm-up on Sunday and Monday with periods of rain across a large portion of the Northeast except for upstate New York and northern New England which should see an icy mix.  More Arctic air will spread across the northern plains, the Great Lakes and the Northeast next week.  The 16-day GFS pattern is a cold one for the Great Lakes and the Northeast with an active storm track.
