Heavy Rain in the Northeast with Snow over Upstate New York and Northern New England...

Rain has been falling throughout the day across most of the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast with snow, sleet and freezing rain across upstate New York. Winter storm warnings are up for parts of Maine and a portion of northern New York for 6 to 10 inches of snow and sleet. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain is expected by Monday morning along coastal sections of the Northeast including New York City and Boston. Sunshine will return to the Northeast on Monday afternoon. A storm now moving eastward across the central Rockies will produce snow and strong winds to the northern Plains on Sunday night and Monday with the potential for severe weather in the southern and central Plains Monday after noon and evening. The next two weeks appear to be quite active with several storms moving across the nation which is typical for this time of year.

Major Storm Tonight in the Canadian Maritimes...Winds Over 100 mph

Blizzard warnings and wind warnings remain in effect tonight as a major storm pounds Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. Winds have been gusting to over 100 mph in places with more than a foot of snow expected. The central pressure of the storm was 962 mb or 28.41 inches this evening. Wind gusts have been reported as high as 109 mph or 183 kph. This storm is said to have been the strongest storm to hit the maritimes in 10 years.  The storm produced up to 8 inches of snow in southern NJ and a foot of snow over Cape Cod. Wind gusts of 83 mph were measured in Nantucket. This storm was nearly perfectly predicted by the computer models 5 or 6 days in advance. Indications are that milder air will move across most of the nation later this week including the Northeast and eastern Canada.
