Earl Heading Towards Cape Hatters and the Outer Banks of NC

Earl packing winds of 145 mph as of 8 am EDT Thursday continues to move to the north-northwest. Hurricane warnings are posted for coastal North Carolina with Tropical Storm Warnings issued from Virginia to coastal New England. The storm is still forecast to turn out to the northeast staying more than 150 miles east of NYC and Long Island. Some rain showers may fall in and around the city on Friday with nothing more than a good breeze in the city and for interior sections of the tri-state metro area. Rip currents and rough seas will be present at area beaches today through part of the weekend. The weather will be much cooler this weekend in the Northeast and for the local NYC metro area with highs in the 70s or about 20 degrees cooler than this week!
