Christmas Week Forecast...Some Snow Tonight in the New York Metro Area

A weak area of low pressure over southern Illinois this morning will move northeast across southern Ohio and Pennsylvania later today and this evening.  The low will then move eastward across New Jersey by 4:00 a.m. Christmas morning.  The boundary layer is relatively cool and the temperatures will be cold enough to support at least a mix of rain, sleet or snow from central New Jersey to New York City.  The northern and western suburbs of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut will support mostly all snow and/or sleet/freezing rain and as a result, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for up 1 to 2 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain.  This will make for very slippery travel Christmas morning as some areas in the New York City metropolitan area will have a relatively rare White Christmas.  As the storm moves off the coast early Tuesday morning, the sky will clear and it will be sunny and cool Christmas Day. 
The weather will be dry on Wednesday across the Northeast but another storm developing along the Gulf Coast will spread a large area of precipitation to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states Wednesday night and Thursday.  The storm is forecast by the NAM and GFS to track west of New York City into Pennsylvania.  Warm air advection on the east side of the storm will produce mostly an all rain event for most of the New York metro area with some snow and sleet at the start over the interior and perhaps a changeover to snow near the end of the storm later in the day on Thursday.  
Another storm will possibly impact the New York City metro area on Sunday and with rain and snow depending on the track and intensity. Have a great holiday.
