The storm will move into northern New England on Saturday with a shot of cold air advection in its wake across the Great Lakes and the Northeast that will last through Christmas Day.  There is the possibility of a short wave trough generating enough precipitation so that there could be scattered light snow showers Monday night or Christmas Eve in and around the New York City metro area.  Another storm will produce heavy rain and snow in the Pacific Northwest through this weekend.

The GFS is forecasting a relatively active pattern for the next two weeks across the lower 48 states with cold air/high pressure frequently moving from Canada.  Strong blocking has been evident in recent runs.  A storm forecast for December 27, 2012 more not develop off far off the coast with no precipitation for the East Coast.  The NOA is forecast by the GFS to become more negative in the next 2 weeks.  There should be some snow in the Northeast by the end of the first week of January.
