A major storm will circulate over the western and central Bering Sea today. The remnants of Typhoon Nuri will produce strong winds and rough seas through the weekend in Alaska. Model guidance is keeping the storm offshore, it is forecast to move to the north and then to the south as it weakens Monday into Wednesday. Discussion from the NWS:
ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS... A DEEP LOW OVER THE WESTERN BERING IS STARTING TO MAKE ITS LOW TRACK TO THE EAST AND THE FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LOW IS STRETCHING OUT THROUGH THE CENTRAL BERING AND OVER THE EASTERN ALEUTIANS. FURTHER EAST A WEAKENING LOW SITS JUST EAST OF KODIAK AND IS MOVING NORTH TOWARDS THE KENAI PENINSULA. THE FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LOW IS ALREADY IMPACTING THE NORTHERN GULF COAST AND SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA.
The storm is very strong with the pressure in the center as low as 928 MB or 27.40 inches. Winds will gust to as high as 50 to 60 mph along the coast and over the Aleutian Islands. The official forecast for St. Lawrence Island, AK from the NWS:
