Heavy Snow in the Appalachian Mountains Today, Heavy Snow in Maine Today and Sunday, Hard Freeze in the South...

Two areas of low pressure along the East Coast will produce up to 10 inches of snow in parts of the Appalachian Mountains today and tonight.  One storm is off the Mid-Atlantic Coast while another one is off the southeast coast of North Carolina.  The southernmost storm will intensify today and tonight into a Nor'easter that will produce heavy snow tonight and Sunday over most of Maine.  Up to one inch of rain is expected in the New York City metro area through tonight.  As the storm intensifies tonight and Sunday, gusty northwest winds will bring down the coldest air of the season for the Northeast.  Cold high pressure plunging into the Ohio Valley will produce widespread frost and freeze tonight as far south as the Panhandle of Florida north of Pensacola. NOAA is expected above normal temperatures with above normal precipitation over the next two weeks in the Northeast and the upper Midwest.  NOAA is also forecasting above normal temperatures over the next three months in the Northeast, the upper Midwest and the West Coast.
