Extreme Cold to Continue for the First Week of 2018...10 Degrees in Times Square Tonight at Midnight...

The brutal cold continues over most of the eastern half of the nation. Wind Chill Warnings and Advisories are in effect tonight from the Midwest to the Northeast. Today was the sixth day in a row with below freezing temperatures in New York City. It is 15 degrees now in Central Park at 3 PM, -12 in International Falls, 4 in Binghamton, 21 in Washington, DC and 3 in Mount Pocono, PA. The forecast is for the very cold weather to continue through the end of the week. Lows will be in the single digits for several days this week in the city with wind chills below zero.  Models indicate a strong storm will graze the Northeast as it passes far off the coast. Some of the snow from this storm and strong winds could affect NYC/Long Island and coastal New England on Thursday. The GFS is forecasting a brief warm-up for the New York City metro area but not until the second week of January. This will be the coldest New Years in Times Square since 1962 when it was 11 degrees.  The coldest New Years in the city was 1 degree in 1917. Have a Happy New Year.
