Coastal Storm Forecast This Week for Coastal Sections in the Northeast

The latest GFS, European (ECMWF), UKMET, GEM, CMC and NOGAPS models are forecasting a coastal storm for Wednesday and Thursday for the New York City metro area as well as coastal New England. The GEM (963 MB), CMC (966), and NOGAPS (976) models are forecasting a stronger storm than the GFS (980 MB), European (985 MB), NAM (1001 MB) and UKMET (983 MB) models. The NAM solution at 84 hours is providing the weakest storm that is well off the coast. The GFS is forecasting a 980 MB low near Cape Cod at 1 AM on Thursday morning. A 1030 MB high over eastern Canada will produce a relatively strong pressure gradient with northeast winds gusting to 40 to 50 mph. The temperatures across the interior sections on NJ, NY, CT and MA should become cold enough for some snow and/or sleet to mix in especially at night. Astronomical tides will not be high this week so this will limit coastal flooding.
