Negative NAO Leads to Stormy Pattern for Next 2 Weeks in US...

Latest model runs from the GFS is predicign a stormy pattern during the next 14 to 16 days over the US.  Blocking is forecast to take place in the west Atlantic.  Two coastal storms are forecasted by the model in the Northeast as well as the Pacific Northwest during this period.  Storms are also racing across southern and central Canada producing snow.  By 384 hours, the model is forecasting a storm existing the Northeast, one moving into the Northwest, another one spread snow across southern Canada and one forming over southern Texas.  The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) has been sharply negative which is completely opposite to what the index was running last year for most of the winter.  The NAO has been slightly positive in the last few days but the GFS is forecasting a negative NAO trend over the next two weeks.
