Freezing Rain Earlier Today Lead to Dozens of Automobile Accidents in the Northeast...Heavy Rain into this Evening

Freezing rain this morning created very icy roads from Maryland to Maine with major multi-car pileups reported in Pennsylvania and Connecticut.  Over 300 accidents were reported in New Jersey as parts of the NJ Turnpike and all New York City bridges were closed for a period of time.  The temperature has increased to above freezing and rain is now falling heavily at times in the New York City metro area.  Still some freezing rain and sleet across upstate New York and interior New England.
