Recording Breaking Snowstorm Forecast for New York City, 2 to 3 Feet of Snow Expected, Blizzard Warnings from Maine to Coastal New Jersey...

Blizzard Warnings are now in effect from coastal Maine to the Jersey Shore.  The Blizzard Warning has also been extended inland over the Lower Hudson Valley, central Connecticut and northern New Jersey.  The latest model guidance continues to indicate that a major blizzard will be taking shape on Monday as a secondary low pressure system forms east of North Carolina and tracks northeastward stalling for a period of time south of Cape Cod on Tuesday.  The models are generating more than 2 inches of water equivalent which would be a 24 to 36 inch snowfall based upon the expected dry consistency of the snow with temperatures well below freezing.  Blowing and drifting snow will create whiteout conditions and there is the potential for power outages due to down trees and power lines.  The previous record snowstorms for New York City includes 26.9" on February 11-12, 2006 and 225.8" on December 26-27, 1947.
